EarTrainer

A picture of my ear

With EarTrainer you can test your hearing and train it in an entertaining way. After all, maybe your hearing is better than you think?

Our own experiences show: Repeated practice with our EarTrainer App improves our hearing abilities dramatically.

If Mozart would have bought this app? Or Beethoven (before he became deaf, of course;-))?

Our own experience shows that those who regularly trains his hearing with EarTrainer App, has a better hearing. It seems you recognizethe tones and chords better the more you hear them. Whether there is a long-term success, we can not say definitively, but it appears to be.

My advice: Try it! And then change the time between the tones to 0 (zero) to make the intervals sound at the same time – a totally different game!

New Features of 1.2.0:

  • For training the tones, you can now select, how many tones will be part of the game and therefore select your difficulty level, since it is harder to find the correct tone out of 42 than out of 5 for example.
  • The app is now waiting for you to be ready and plays the first tone after you have hit “OK”. This was a suggestion by Jonathan, who did not like situations where the app presented him the first tone before he was ready for it. We had always hoped this is not a problem, since you can re-play the tone any time, but we agreed to put this in.
  • After so many requests, we finally decided to add support for English, Italian, French and Spanish in addition to the native German version! Since the Spanish and Italian versions are “done at our best”, we believe we need a lot of feedback, help and suggestions from your side as well. Did we translate all musical terms correctly?
  • Finally, we fixed some bugs. Most of them smaller ones, like some tones had to much reverb, and that the highest tones were never selected for the quiz.

Finally, a true story:

My parents are visiting. My father and I have a look at our new app EarTrainer. The app plays a sound, I express my guess, he tells me his guess and in the background I hear my mother expressing her tip. We do this a few times, but because I want to show the app (and not actually test my parents hearing), I switch back and forth to show all features. They are impressed.

When my parents have left, I realize what I have just witnessed: I did not get all the notes right, but my mother was always right! And now I am annoyed by my behavior, that I wanted to show the app and did not test, whether she really has such a good hearing or if it was just a coincidence that she has heard the correct tone three or four times correctly. But I will check, when she visits next time!
